What is Virasorb Aciclovir Cream?

Virasorb is a cream treatment for cold sores, which are caused by infection with the herpes simplex virus This cream contains the active ingredient aciclovir, which is an antiviral medicine used to treat infections with the herpes virus.

How does the active ingredient Aciclovir work to help with cold sores?

Aciclovir works by stopping the herpes simplex virus from reproducing and infecting more cells. Aciclovir is converted to a more active form inside cells of the body that are infected with herpes simplex

Keep out of reach of children

Be sure to wash your hands before and after use.

Do not use:
If allergic to any of the ingredients

Speak to your GP or our Pharmacist before use if:
You are pregnant or breastfeeding

Speak to your GP or our Pharmacist if you symptoms do not clear up within 10 days.

Ingredients

Active ingredient: Aciclovir 5% w/w.

Other ingredients: Glyceryl Monostearate, Dimeticone, Cetyl Alcohol, Liquid Paraffin, White Soft Paraffin, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water.

How to use it?

How do I apply Virasorb Aciclovir Cream?

Directions:
Apply FIVE times a day, every four hours for 5 days.

If the sore hasn't completely healed use for a further 5 days (After this period time you still have no improvement speak to your GP or our Pharmacist)

Note:
Start applying the cream as soon as you notice any symptoms such as tingling or smarting.

Wash your hands before and after use to avoid making the cold sore worse or giving the infection to someone else.

Apply it preferably using a cotton bud. If one is not available use a clean finger.

Apply a thin layer to all the blisters and the surrounding area.

Side effects

What are the side effects of Virasorb Aciclovir Cream?

Common side effects:

A burning or stinging feeling after applying the cream that goes away, itching or a mild drying or flaking of the skin, skin rash, redness of your skin.

If you have any concerns or queries regarding any side effects this medicine has caused or could cause you can call your GP or our pharmacist.

If you have any severe side effects stop use immediately and seek medical assitance as soon as possible.
